JCW Rea & Son is one of the oldest legal practices in Northern Ireland having been formed over 120 years ago.  The firm has traditionally provided legal services mainly to businesses, and in particular, the insurance sector in Northern Ireland.

The firm was acquired in the 1930s by a highly motivated lawyer called Frank Hanna, who had recently opened his own legal practice of Francis Hanna Solicitor.  Frank’s father, Michael, had been a Law Clerk with J C W Rea & Son for many years and upon the retirement of the firm’s partners, Frank saw an opportunity and bought the practice.  He worked with his son for a short period before he too retired.

Since then the practice has continued to provide comprehensive legal services to the business and insurance sectors specialising in defence insurance litigation for a number of different high-profile insurance clients.

The current partnership, which includes a grandson of Frank Hanna, continues to represent a number of leading insurers in relation to all aspects of defence insurance litigation in Northern Ireland in both the County Court and High Court.

We specialise in comprehensive investigation of every type of accident/incident and provide investigation reports in a timely and efficient manner.  We are based in the heart of Belfast’s Legal Quarter, less than 5 minutes-walk from the Supreme Court of Northern Ireland complex.

Our solicitors, who are a diverse range of individuals with varied backgrounds, skills and experiences offer a correspondingly wide range of services, which include advices regarding personal injury claims, credit hire claims, fatal accidents, severe and catastrophic injury, industrial diseases and household liability claims including contamination and environmental claims.

We also have a specialist team that deals with policy related disputes, Financial Ombudsman Service complaints and breach of contract cases.

We are proud of our longstanding heritage of providing high quality and comprehensive legal services to the insurance industry and commercial clients.
